I used audience feed back through out my project. The first instance was to initially understand who my target audience would be so i used Survey monkey and shared it across friends and colleagues. Knowing that the profitable market are in the 15-24 (millennials, generation Y) demographic i felt that by having an online survey i could easily reach this market as they are known for their online use, hence why the use of a website to promote my album. once i had an understanding on who my target market. This served as my primary audience research and once i knew who my target market was I began to develop my idea, once i had my idea I pitched it to a group of my target audience, below is a prezi showing what they thought of my ideas:
My Target audience would be females in the 15-24 age bracket due to the upbeat nature of the song and video. These would also be people who are fans of my chosen artist and other similar artist, because she is new to the scene this would potentially be a more niche audience, when I asked people's opinions of my song when i pitched my ideas the majority did not seem to know my chosen song or artists, this meant that I could be creative with my products because people would not already have preset ideas of what to expect for my music video which i thought was a positive. In my audience research i understood that because my artist is female the video would most likely appeal to girls who are considered to have alternative interests in regards to films and music, specially those in the R&B sub genres that could link to Hip Hop, therefore it could appeal more to racial minorities as these are genres dominated by these groups of people.
Primary audience:
My secondary audience would be males in a similar demographic as this genre of music would appeal to them due to some inspiration for this genre coming from dubstep. The fact that the song is less known my secondary audience would have to have niche interests most likely having interests that over lap with the modern 'geek' culture.
My tertiary target audience are slightly older older grouns (25-30) and most likely female. They have similar traits and interest as my Primary and secondary target audience but have a greater understanding of the deeper themes in the music and also are ones who are most likely to be able to go to my artist's concerts as some locations have age restrictions appealing to an older audience.
Once i made my video i created another online survey (https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/D6GDWTW) and linked it to my video, i also held a focus group so i could have people expressing their opinions through a discussion following a screening of the video.
here are their opnions:
Because the link to the survey was in my video a variety of people were able to answer and express their views.
Conclusion
Overall I found that the feedback for my products was pretty positive. Most of the criticism was aimed towards the quality of the Lip sync which was slightly off at times, also some of the quality of the film differed due to changing in settings specially in areas in low light where i had to use a high ISO which caused some grain in some of the shots. People also found issue with the narrative i was trying to convey but this could be as a result of their unfamiliarity to the song or my inability to clearly portray a simple narrative resulting in confusion for the viewers. Besides these issues when asked how they would score the video between 1 and 10 (1 being not so good and 10 being really good) many scored it between 7 and 8 which i find to be partially above average and therefore good. Taking this into account if i was to make any improvements it would be by re shooting some scenes with a better quality camera preventing the quality from fluctuating from good to bad. I would also have my artist practice the song lyrics better so the lip sync won't be as unmatched.
Overall i found that obtaining audience feedback was helpful in the development of my project because it helped me understand who my target audience was and what i could do to create products that they would enjoy.
