work diary

From further website research i saw that my website needed a news page which showed what my artists was doing and other news regarding her, in the websites this was a way to keep fans informed which creates a connection between the artist and their fan base. this is also an effective way of promoting new products such as merchandise and the release of a new album.

Another aspect my website needed was an 'about' page, this page has the information about the artist such as their background and what interested them in going into music, this is also another way how the fan base can feel connected to the artist as it adds to their persona and humanises them further so to seem more like simple people.

Work Diary- Taking Pictures for the website

Having taken the first set of images for the website I experimented with the initial idea I had of displaying a 1950's style 'pin up' look initially inspired by Rosie the riveter . using the tutorial below I attempted to transform the images which would serve as the backgrounds for the website, I wasn't happy with the result as they didn't seem to fit with the alternative theme of the music that my artist would have been. because of his I have decided to re-do this shoot but in a different location, potentially altering my subject's wardrobe so o look more edgy and therefore interesting. in this shoot I had my subject in a white top as I felt that the simplicity would prevent distraction from other aspects of the image such as the red lips which are a direct link to the tea cup marked with lipstick which would be present in the video and digipack as a potential metaphor for the artist. By doing this the result seemed bland and boring.

Work Diary- Developing ideas for Website

Today I drew up new drafts for the website, I went through my previous ideas of including a slideshow of pictures in the front page and decided to reconsider and change the home page to just be one simple image with links to other pages or ways to connect to areas where the album could be brought similar to that of Lana Del Rey's website.

I feel that a simplistic minimalistic website will appeal more to my target audience.

Shooting for music video 2

Continuing with the shooting process today's shoots were done in the photo studio so to make use of the lighting. i wanted to create a series of shots where the lighting shifts from dark to light so by doing it indoors in a room without windows meant i had easy control of the lighting. This also meant that the background was a dark color that i needed as i wanted the shots to contrast with the white of my artist's top. The white being a style decisions due to the purity of the color an it's representation of rebirth and new beginnings.

Work Diary- Shooting for Music Video

This weekend I began filming for my music video.
we did the scene at the diner party which had other cast members playing snobby guests and the 'date' scene where the artist/singer was in a scenic location outside surrounded by flowers, whilst being wooed by the love interest who purposely had no chemistry with her. Unfortunately he weather meant that the scenes filmed outside were affected by the heavy wind which caused havoc with the props. The dinner party scene also seemed unsuccessful and I do not feel like the result works well with the aesthetic I was attempting to achieve. This has made me rethink my approach to the video so I will potentially brainstorm new ideas and ways to continue keeping my theme of Feeling trapped  and escaping.

shooting for the album cover

Once i completed my light box I did some test shots to see if it worked how I wanted it to work. O i did some tests shoots to experiment.

In these shots i experimented with different lighting and position to see if making changes would have an effect. Once i was pleased with the outcomes I began shooting images for my album cover.
here is a contact sheet showing a selection of images from this  shoot:
Below are the images of how i had the lighting set out around my light box so to show my method, this including the settings i had the lights on which created the outcomes i was happy with

Making a light box

Once I had decided what I wanted to do for the front of the digipack i knew that i was going to need a light box so to easily achieve the bright yellow background i wanted in the pictures.
Having done some research i found a variation of tutorials to create a working light box, many of which didn't seem to need a lot of resources.

to make the light box i used:
- Scissors
- Glue
- A3 coloured paper as this will be used for the bacground
- grease proof/ parchment paper to line the sides so the light will not be so harsh
- a box

1. I cut the lid out of the box
2. I then measured out squares in 3 of the sides of the box, these were the areas that were going to be cut.
3. once cutting those areas I glued the parchment paper over the squares, this is how the light will get through the paper.
4. I then used two A3 sheets of yellow paper as the background and the bottom of the box by glueing the top side of the paper to the roof of the box.
