Locations

For my video I plan on having three different scenes set in three different locations, i visited the locations so to see whether or not they would be suitable for my music video. This also allowed me to see their accessibility and any hazards at the location.By visiting the locations I was also able to see whether or not it would work with the aesthetic I wanted to achieve for my video. One of the is a forest setting, I am aware that there a thew possible locations to do this in. The first is a path near Thorpe road:
This is a google maps satellite image of the location.

Bellow is the picture I took of he location.

Another is a path behind Nene park academy, this is the satellite image of the location:

This is an image of that location:

The other scenes i want to do in my house where i can customise and decorate the setting to create the set I want, this is also because it is easily accessible.

I have drawn out rough sketches with my ideas for these sets so i'll have some idea of what i'll need to create the set (thought most features such as the furniture are already there).

Because this location is so easily accessible to me I am able to change certain features such as the lighting and background. I would want to potential experiment with placing black curtains in the around the walls of the dining room setting as it would could have a more ominous and edgy affect, similar to what is done for professionally made music videos of my chosen genre.

Location and Sets research

Because of the niche market my chosen genre markets too, professional videos can vary in budget meaning sets can go from being in one location with a plain background, such as in the video for The Way by Kehlani:

This video shows a simple background being used where the lighting is changed to show a change i the mood of the song, because the key aspect of the video are the dancers their movement also goes with the song. This is an example of a lower budget music video. A music video in my chosen genre with a higher budget could make use of a variation of sets and locations so the demonstrate the story and themes depicted in the song. Janelle Monae's Q.U.E.E.N and Primetime are examples of videos that con sited of a higher budget and therefore the sets were more sophisticated but still were in one with the story and themes in the song.

More sophisticated videos can use a variation of settings and locations, The above were done in a studio setting and in a night club, which is also another common location used for music videos of my chosen genre. Videos can also be shot outdoors, forrest settings are very commonly used in these music videos as they can represent a character's search for something or their feeling of loneliness and isolation. Videos that make comments on the attitudes of today's society would commonly be set in a city location where it is busy and chaotic.

Frank Ocean's video for Swim Good is an example of a rural setting being used:

Electric Lady album cover

The black white colour schemes used in the video and the album cover link both products together, the album aslo replicates a shot in the music video where all the characters shown have the same outfit and hair styles as they were intended to represent a group of sisters. I feel that by using the same outfit in both the video and album cover the products become related making the video a for of marketing for the album. In other videos she is shown to start the song by putting a tape or a vinyl clearly marked with  the album cover as a way to further link the videos and the album so to show the story that the artist is attempting to tell in her album.

Below are some behind the scenes footages of the recording of music videos, some explain the thought process behind the music video allowing the audience to understand the themes depicted in the music video. They also give me an understanding on the  process of recording  a music video.

These are some of the equipment  that are normally used in recording a music video, they are also pieces of equipment and resources  that are easily accessible to me.
